Transition Double Built
Finally my Transition Double is finished! Last year my eyes were really opened – I was in the mindset that I wasn’t capable of dirt jumping and never would be. However after a couple of visits to the Whistler Air Dome, I was actually doing a half decent backflip.
I know I was only flipping into a foam pit – but the fact is, I was hitting a vertical jump with speed. Coupled with the jumping that I was doing on my downhill bike in the bike park, I was more confident in the air than I had ever been.
I purchased a Transition Double because I want to further develop my dirt jumping skills. I’ll be using this bike at the local dirt jumps, hitting the Air Dome to help me with some style in the air, and then putting it through it’s paces in the bike park once it opens. I know it’s going to be hard work in the park, but I’ve always been a believer in doing things the hard way in the aim of becoming a better rider in the end.
I figure with a bit of extra air in the rear shock it will be great fun on a pump track, and if need be it can be my trail bike too. I know it’s not going to pedal perfectly, but from what I can gather in Whistler, no-one really cares. It’s all about the descent!
The paint job is excellent. When I was first choosing a colour I wasn’t sure what to pick, but I’m really glad I went with the yellow. It has a lot of depth – something that is impossible to catch with my camera while indoors. The internal cable routing keeps everything nice and tidy too.
Build kit at the moment is the standard kit from Transition – Fox 831, Avid Elixir CR’s, Sram x9, and so on. The only difference from the standard spec is the Revolution 28 wheelset – I have a Revolution 32 wheelset here at home, but I’m giving the lighter wheels a go first.
Now if only it would stop snowing so I can go and ride! (And take a photo of my bike with some actual sunlight!)
