Save Galbraith Mountain!
On our recent trip to Seattle, the guys at Transition Bikes sent us to check out Galbraith Mountain.
Galbraith Mountain is located in Bellingham, and boasts some of the largest trail networks in Washington. The trails range from fun, flowy singletrack to technical XC and freeride trails. It’s one of those places that anyone can have a good time at whether they are new to the sport or have been riding for years.
We had an awesome day out at Galbraith. While we learnt just how unfit we were on the ride up, riding the singletrack down was great fun. Our favourite trails would have to be Mullet and Cheech and Chong’s Wild Ride. Both featured some nice flowy trail, with some decent freeride structures around the place too.
Unfortunately though, WMBC (the club responsible for the Galbraith trails) has been notified that as of April 25th 2011, Polygon will terminate the existing stewardship agreement.
WMBC writes…
The soon to be expiring agreement set forth parameters by which the WMBC would continue to construct and maintain the trail system on Galbraith Mountain. The agreement provided provisions for either party to terminate the agreement at will.
This will negatively impact trail access, connectivity and overall trail system maintenance.
Currently, the mountain remains open for public access with restricted access in areas where there is logging activity.
From everything I have read, there appears to be considerable public support for Galbraith Mountain to remain as it is, but I have seen these battles lost in “suspiciously short” time frames before.
Please support the WMBC in their fight for mountain bike trails in Bellingham and help Preserve Galbraith!
