Spank Spike 777 Evo Handlebar
A lightweight yet strong “wide bar” that looks great seems the perfect way for me to sum up the Spank Spike 777 Evo handlebars.
Made from Super Six Alloy and CNC bent on three planes, these bars are competitively light while still super strong. Spank’s Dual XGT (Extreme Gradual Taper) technology enables extreme precision where other bars would need to be hand-ground, resulting in imperfections and inconsistency in wall thickness. Impact Ends reduce the chance of handlebar collapse in areas where the wall is thinner and in heavy impacts.
Spank have also taken extra steps to ensure that the clamp area of the Spike 777 Evo bar is uniformly cylindrical and as true as possible. What does this really mean? The handlebars and stem mount together with more precision, increasing strength under extreme loads.
The Spank Spike handlebar is supplied at a 777mm width. Having used 785mm Race Face Atlas FR handlebars last year, and been supplied 800mm Kore Torsion Race bars on both my Transition Double and Transition TR450, I’ve spent enough time on wider bars to know what works for me. The 777mm width feels perfect to me – wide without being a fashion statement and detracting from my riding. Obviously you can cut any bars down to a smaller width, but it’s always nice to buy a product and for it to be perfect out of the packaging.
Spank Spike bars give a 4 degree up sweep and an 8 degree back sweep. Again these handlebars just felt perfect on my first ride – it didn’t take any time to adapt at all. Available in a 5/15/30/50mm rise, I’m running a 15mm rise bar. Coupled with the 15 degree low rise Spank “The Standard” Director stem, I’m nice and low on the front end, forcing my body position to the front of my bike – something that has already improved my riding substantially. Sometimes a little setup does go a long way!
Weight of the Spike 777 Evo handlebar varies from 280g to 318g depending on what rise you’re going for, and obviously less if you are cutting them down. The 15mm rise version weighs in at 293g (photo for reference on Sicklines), and when compared with the competition, it’s a lightweight bar! A Race Face Atlas FR 785mm weighs 331g, while the Chromag OSX 760mm weighs 310g.
Offered in White, Black, Chrome, Race Red and Race Blue, the Spank Spike bars not only work well but look awesome!
A big thanks to Spank Bikes for sorting me out with these bars (and everything else!). I’m not much of a Mountain Biker, but I really love your site. I’m going to be sure to tune in regularly and use it as a way to get more up to date on what’s happening in the world of MTBing. Keep up the great work Jase.

No worries Darryl – it’s just all about mountain biking for me as you’ll see over the next few months. So long as it has two wheels (or in some cases three) and a pair of pedals, I love it!
Thanks for commenting!
I had the Spike bar some time ago, but stupid me cut them down too narrow. I was pretty impressed with look and feel, I just wish I hadn’t chopped it 🙁
Can I cut down the Spank Spike Bars past the MAX line on the ends? I got three of these bars and I want to use one of them on my XC 29er…I realize I won’t have the impact protection, but for XC that don’t matter too much. Anyone know? Will cutting past the MAX line weaken the bar too much, or not?
Hi, is that 15mm rise version on the last blue/black bars?
Sure is mate.
